A good portrait is an expression of both who you are and how you want to be seen

I have always loved taking portraits but soon came to realise that a lot of clients disliked the formality and alien nature of shooting in a studio. Because of this, I changed my lighting gear and have designed a number of different packages to photograph people in their own home or at a location of their choosing. I have found that this results in much more candid, relaxed and enjoyable sessions.

From the colour palette used, to the type of clothing worn, to the mood of subject and shot, a portrait is an expression of your wishes. Whether you want a self, business or family portrait, you choose the mood of the shots: from bright, airy and colourful to stark, thoughtful black-and-white - and anything in-between.

I offer both individual and family portrait sessions. Read about the services offered and see some examples below along with the cost of each shoot.

CLIENT SHOOTS - MIXING STYLES ON THE DAY

Looking at the examples on this page, you can see how different setups can convey the same individual in a completely different way. All this is worked out in our discussion before the shoot, based on your wishes and can be done in your home or at a location of your choosing.
For their individual shoots, Michelle and Fred asked for a mix of business and personal photos. Both styles can be accommodated in one shoot.

All of these these clients used Pinterest to create to create a mood board that they shared with me before we met for our pre-shoot discussion. A mood board is a collection of photos you like, shots of makeup styles, clothing, locations, lighting , etc. that we can talk abut creating on your shoot. If I know what you want, I can generally recreate it for you and if it isn't possible in your home we can always explore other options. Everything you see on this page was shot in the client's home.

how it works

1.BEFORE

Pre-shoot consultation.
At this stage we will discuss the style of photos you want, costume options etc. You will also be invited to view several images of previous clients that have been edited in different styles so that you may specify what styles you would like for your photos.
Alternatively, if you create a mood board in Pinterest you can share that with me prior to the consultation and we will discuss options.
It’s good to talk about this from the outset as it makes everything else easier!

2. ON THE DAY

Photo session at your chosen location, comprised of:
1hr setup/takedown time for lights, etc:
Time of shoot determined by package bought (see below).

3. AFTER

Private online gallery to review and select your photos and share with friends.
Images on this site are watermarked.
Online delivery of digital images of your choice: fully-edited, print-resolution photos.

individual and business portraits

Individual portraits are taken with an eye to make the world see you how you want to be seen. Do you want to dress up and smile? Be angry? Be seen in your shop or offices? Cook in your beloved kitchen? Paint in your studio? The choice is yours and I will help you create the image of yourself that you’ve always wanted to see.

Take a look at the portraits on this site to see the same client in a variety of different moods and styles.  You can clearly see how colour, lighting, pose and attitude can change the perception of the subject.

There are some further options for business users, too, to help you promote and brand both yourself and your business’s image. These are available as extras to the photo shoot, to keep things simple.

family portraits

As a stay-at-home father of three I can fully endorse the cliché that ‘they grow up so fast’. These days cameras in mobiles mean that many of the moments it was impossible to capture before are now just a split-second away, along with videos too.

So why have a family portrait taken?

The obvious reason is that for once, the whole family will be in the shot: both parents as opposed to just one. We rarely get to see photos of our whole family together and the family dynamic is remarkably different if one of you isn’t holding the camera. The shoot itself also presents an opportunity for the family to come together in a new and unusual environment. Family photo shoots are a fun experience and the best thing is that it’s recorded for you professionally and in a variety of styles that you wouldn’t be able to create yourself.

Ask yourself, of all those phone shots you’ve taken, how many are printed out and easy to find? How often do  you look at them?

As well as providing you with the digital images (at print quality if you want to do it yourself) all my family shoots have an option for you to order a photobook, too. Having an album on a shelf in the lounge that you can just pull out and flip through makes things easy and is a lovely experience of itself

I’ve assembled a couple of print packages above in the Extras section. l can also create a tailor-made package just for you.
